Switchboard upgrade recommendations

Enews Banners General (1)

The technical team frequently receives inquiries about the extent to which a switchboard upgrade should be carried out.

When conducting a domestic switchboard upgrade, we would recommend as a minimum the following:

  • All final sub circuits in domestic are RCD protected.
  • Commercial switchboards Light and Power up to and including 32a circuits RCD protected.
  • Not more than three circuit breakers on one RCD (domestic).
  • Conduct an insulation resistance test A-E & N-E on all final subcircuits before reconnection.
  • Check the MEN and if metal enclosure check the box bond size and serviceability.
  • Check main earth ( <0.5Ω ) size as per AS/NZS 3000 table 5.1.
  • Main Earth conductor and earth stake serviceability, exposed to the weather and accessible, connection painted & tagged.
  • Check for any equipotential bonding.
  • Ensure there is a cable route diagram ( if known ) location of main earth and circuit labeling.
  • General visual inspection of the switchboard.
