Subdivision switchboards and metering requirements

EGT Apprentice News Banners (9)

Site Main Switchboard (SMSB) requirements

Approval and requirements:

  • The requirement for an SMSB is part of the West Australian Planning Commission (WAPC) approval process.
  • Compliance with Western Power and Horizon Power standards is essential for power supplies to a lot.

Installation and clearance:

  • Electrical contractors must supply and install a SMSB as part of the approval process.
  • A clearance certificate will not be issued to the land developer until a Notice of Completion is received.

Guidelines and references:

Considerations:

  • Verify the location, size, and type of SMSB required based on the type of subdivision (e.g., freehold or strata).
  • Take into account the number of units on site, as this will affect the size of consumer mains and SMSB.

Metering and equipment

Installation standards:

  • Adhere to WAER and WASIR metering regulations for all metering and associated equipment.

Considerations:

  • Ensure that Distributed Master Metering and Multiple Master Metering are not mixed on the same site.
  • We encourage electrical contractors to thoroughly review these requirements and guidelines to ensure full compliance and to avoid potential issues.
