New CPR training requirements for licensed electricians
Building & Energy has announced new ongoing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training requirements for all licensed electricians:
From 17 October 2024, all licensed electricians are required to complete CPR training at intervals not exceeding three years.
This means you must complete a CPR course approved by the Director of Energy Safety (an 'approved CPR course') within the next three years.
The Director of Energy Safety has approved the unit of competency HLTAID009 – Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation as an approved CPR course. This training must be completed with a Registered Training Organisation approved to deliver the unit.
As the requirement to complete CPR training is ongoing, after completing your initial training, you must complete an approved CPR course at least once every three years while you continue to be licensed.
You will need to remember when your CPR training must be completed as reminder notices will not be provided.
Records of completing an approved CPR course will also need to be kept for a period of five years from the date it was completed. Building and Energy will conduct audits of your compliance with CPR training requirements and you will need to produce evidence that you have completed an approved CPR course.
Failing to comply with CPR training requirements may result in an infringement notice, the fine for which is $500, or prosecution for repeated or belligerent non-compliance, which can result in a fine of up to $10,000.
The College of Electrical Training (RTO code 2394) can help you and your team comply with the new requirements with course dates available now at their Joondalup and Jandakot campuses.
Additionally, CET offer onsite training packages for businesses that prefer on-site delivery. Phone CET on (08) 9233 5000 or email joondalup@cet.asn.au to discuss.
