Media Release | ETI awarded $3.1 million for training upgrades
The Electrotechnology Training Institute (ETI) is pleased to announce that it has been awarded $3.1 million from the State Government to significantly upgrade its training facilities in Jandakot and Joondalup through the Construction Training Fund's (CTF) Captal Grants Program. This funding will support ETI’s ongoing commitment to providing high-quality training in the electrical and construction industries, including essential skills required for Western Australia’s transition to renewable energy technologies.
The funding, announced on 3 February 2025, will enable ETI to refurbish and build training facilities in both Jandakot and Joondalup, increasing its capacity to train an additional 4,500 students over the next ten years. The project is expected to be completed by April 2026, with ETI contributing an additional $2.5 million toward the project’s total cost.
This major investment is part of the State Government’s strategy to bolster the skilled workforce in Western Australia’s building and construction industry. The Capital Grants Program is specifically designed to assist private Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) to expand their facilities and meet the growing demand for skilled workers. The program is critical in providing the necessary infrastructure to train thousands of new tradespeople, particularly in high-demand areas like electrical and renewable energy sectors.
Minister for Training and Workforce Development Simone McGurk commented, “Electricians and instrument technicians are in big demand, and this funding will enable ETI to expand its capacity to train thousands more people for rewarding jobs in building and construction. With our booming housing market and the demand driven by the clean energy transition, there’s never been a better time to get into training.”
The funding from the Capital Grants Program will help ETI meet the growing demand for skilled electrical trades workers, with a focus on renewable energy technologies. Joondalup MLA Emily Hamilton also highlighted the significance of this investment, saying, “Quality training is so important, and these facilities will ensure a pipeline of workers for many years to come.”
Carl Copeland, CEO of ETI, added, “We are thrilled to receive this funding, which will enable us to significantly expand our training capacity and provide thousands more students with the skills they need to succeed in the electrical trades. This investment not only supports the transition to renewable energy but also strengthens our commitment to developing a highly skilled workforce for the future of Western Australia.”
ETI is committed to delivering industry-leading education that empowers students to excel in the rapidly evolving electrical industry. With the expansion of its training facilities, ETI and its business units, College of Electrical Training (CET), Electrical Group Training (EGT), Equip-Safe and ECA WA will play a pivotal role in meeting the demand for skilled tradespeople across Western Australia, particularly as the state continues to transition to a clean energy future.
